Cheltenham Town 3-1 South Shields

South Shields’ historic run in the Emirates FA Cup came to an end as they were beaten by League Two side Cheltenham Town in a hard-fought encounter at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

The Mariners were playing in round one of the competition for the first time and were level at the break after Darius Osei cancelled out an opener from Alfie May.

Cheltenham Town vs South Shields: Mariners aim to make more history

South Shields will aim to extend their longest run in the Emirates FA Cup since the club reformed in 1974 when they take on Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

After overcoming Warrington Town, Ashton United, Southport and FC Halifax Town, the Mariners must now defeat Football League opposition to claim a place in round two for the first time.

Gainsborough Trinity 0-1 South Shields

South Shields recorded a fifth consecutive clean sheet and were rewarded with a fourth straight victory as a Robert Briggs penalty settled a Pitching In Northern Premier League encounter with Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday.

In their final league fixture before a month-long lockdown, the Mariners enjoyed the bulk of the possession and chances and deserved their win at the Gainsborough Martin & Co Arena.
