South Shields 5-1 Harrogate Town: Young Mariners reach first round again

South Shields qualified for the main draw in the FA Youth Cup for the second year running after an impressive 5-1 victory over Harrogate Town at Mariners Park on Monday.

Ben Errington and Sam Hodgson each netted twice, with Joao Gomes also on the scoresheet after firing a thunderbolt in the second half as the young Mariners booked their place in the first round.

FA Youth Cup: Date confirmed for trip to Lincoln City


South Shields’ FA Youth Cup second round trip to Lincoln City will take place on Tuesday, November 13.

The match will kick-off at 7.30pm at Lincoln’s Sincil Bank, which has a post code of LN5 8LD.

Admission prices are £3 for adults and £1 for concessions, and all support would be greatly appreciated.

The young Mariners have enjoyed a tremendous run to reach the second round of the competition.

Their journey began in August, when they saw off Stockton Town 4-3 in a thrilling first qualifying round encounter.

Shields have since won at home against Spennymoor Town, Gateshead, Chorley and Macclesfield Town to book their place in round two.

Lee Picton and Graham Fenton are now ready to take the young Mariners to Lincoln for the biggest game of their young lives as they bid to qualify for the third round, which will also include the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Brilliant youngsters hit Macclesfield for six in FA Youth Cup


South Shields’ historic run in the FA Youth Cup continued with an outstanding 6-2 thrashing of Macclesfield Town on Monday.

Sam Hodgson netted a hat-trick for the young Mariners on a night they could have hit double figures.

Michael Colquhoun also scored twice while Will McCamley was also on the scoresheet for Lee Picton and Graham Fenton’s side in front of a crowd of more than 350 at Mariners Park.
